We have lots of fun events planned for May, including our vegan Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, Mother's Day Brunch this Sunday, the return of Taco-Waco Wednesdays, and the first VBBQ of the summer! More details on each of these events can be found below.
Kelly and I have been watching the progression of the oil leak in the Gulf with both dismay and trepidation. After living in Virginia Beach for some time, I understand the economic importance of the high tourist season to beachside communities. The best way to help these businesses, and the owners and employees who make their livelihood from them, is for us folks who live nearby to visit the gulf coast this summer despite the oil. If you have a favorite restaurant, bed and breakfast, museum, or shop on the gulf coast - go and support them by making a purchase. This small action may seem insignificant, but even just one sale can make a difference.
The environmental consequences are unthinkable as well. We are organizing a seabird supply drive to assist the response to oiled seabirds. See below for the items we are collecting. Also, we found this great article online which lists ways you can help. Please take action and get involved, whether you donate or volunteer - it's up to us to make recovery possible.

Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary Supply Drive
We are organizing a seabird supply drive to help seabirds affected by the Horizon Oil Leak. We are collecting the following supplies to pack and mail to the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Shores, Florida, near Clearwater Beach:
•Brushes
•Rags
•Dish Soap
•Q Tips
We selected these items for ease of collection and shipping. However, we encourage you to visit their website to donate one of the other items on their wishlist. They are also accepting volunteers as they gear up for landfall of the oil slick.

May's Charity: Simple Living Institute
May's charity is Simple Living Institute, a local non-profit dedicated to creating opportunities for sustainable living in our Central Florida community. To have 10% of your Ethos check donated to Simple Living, simply print the 10% Day Flyer and present it on Tuesday, May 11th when placing your order. Simple Living also invites you to join their Local Food meeting at 7pm on the patio, where they will be discussing plans to research, develop, and create a Local Food Guide and the local food system in general.

VBBQ!!
Barbecue is an American summer tradition - why should vegans be left out? Join our VBBQ the last Saturday of each month now through September! Each month we'll feature a different barbecue special, complete with all the fixin's. May's VBBQ will be held Saturday, May 29th, 2pm-6pm. Our VBBQ Special will be BBQ Chickun Sandwiches, plus, enjoy $3 bottles of Orlando Brewing organic beer!
